Created for Asteroid Hunters, an IMAX original film, this scene shows what early planets, protoplanets, might have looked like. While the image needed to be dramatic the science had to be real and depicted as accurately as we could with the science available. Each asteroid, protoplanet and dot was intentional as we depict the scale and action that took place as our solar system formed.
While this wasn't the final version, it was my personal favorite that we developed. Huge thanks again to Director David Hogan and writer Phil Cosgrove for their insight, knowledge, and wisdom!
90% of this scene was digitally painted, but some was derived in part from a Zbrush protoplanet sculpt which was used to generate some lit textured surfaces. Hope you enjoy! Let me know what you think!
